KOTLOWY
The shakuhachi is an end-blown flute, usually fashioned from a single piece of the root-end of a Madake bamboo.
The solo honkyoku repertoire has long been associated with Japanese Zen through its application as a spiritual tool. All sounds produced on the instrument are included in its music.
David has been playing shakuhachi for more than a decade, and, as the the recipient of an Arts SA - Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi Japan Travel Fund, spent 2009 furthering his study of the instrument with renowned sensei Kaoru Kakizakai and Atsuya Okuda, in Japan.
